THE FUTURE OF CAMBERWELL MAGISTRATES COURT
A new proposed hotel and public space at the heart of Camberwell Green

THE PROPOSAL
Camberwell Living Ltd is proposing to convert the former Camberwell Magistrates Court into a hotel, retaining the existing building in full.
The London Borough of Southwark previously granted committee approval for a mixed-use scheme at the site. However, that scheme which was originally designed in 2022 is no longer deliverable.
These revised proposals represent a significantly scaled back approach focused on the reuse of the existing building.
KEY FEATURES
The revised proposals will deliver the following:
Conversion of the existing building into a hotel
Ground floor uses that are accessible to the community
No new extension to the building
Full retention of the existing building, including its structural frame, and enhancement of the existing facade
Delivery of an ambitious set of public realm, landscaping, and highway improvements
THE SITE
The site is the vacant Camberwell Magistrates Court building, located on the corner of Elmington Road, Kimpton Road, and D'Eynsford Road in Camberwell.
The site has stood vacant since 2020, following its closure by the Ministry of Justice. The building occupies a prominent position at the heart of Camberwell Green, and its long-term vacancy has been a source of concern for the local community.
